Breaking News: Court Grants Emefiele Bail

On Tuesday, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, entered a plea of not guilty before a Federal High Court in Lagos. He was charged by the Ministry of Justice for alleged illegal possession of firearms.

Emefiele arrived at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos for his alleged gun possession trial. The suspended CBN Governor, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court thereafter granted Mr. Emefiele bail in the sum of N20m and one surety.

However, there are concerns that the Department of State Security, DSS, may seek to re-arrest Mr. Godwin Emefiele. It is believed that his lawyers have advised him to remain within the premises of the Court until they are sure that he would be taken in custody by officials of the correctional services pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
