Super Falcons vs England Clash – Waldrum Not Afraid

Randy Waldrum, coach of the Super Falcons has expressed confidence in the team’s ability, as they progress into the round of 16 in the ongoing Women’s World Cup, ahead of their likely game against the European champions, England, who finished as table toppers in Group D.

Super Falcons of Nigeria

The super Falcons qualified for the round of 16 as the second-placed team in Group B with five points on Monday after playing out a goalless draw against Ireland. Co-host, Australia thrashed Olympic champions Canada 4-0 to go top of group B with six points.

The Falcons are in the second round of the Women’s World Cup for the third time in nine appearances and are hoping to continue their fairytale run. Recall that the Super Falcons reached the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Cup tournament in the US in 1999. Brazil eliminated them with a thrilling 5-4 victory in a 120-minute football match.

England, who currently have six points, will top their group if they draw or beat China on Tuesday (today) and the Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum believes the European champions will not be different from any of their group opponents.

Waldrum, who believes that the Falcons should have won their game against Ireland says that England are going to be “another great team, if it’s England, the European champions, we have already played Canada the Olympic gold medalists, we have already played the host nation, it’s just going to be one of those matches that we’ve already been playing,”.

“I was actually disappointed in the second half because we could have won the match. It almost feels disappointing that we didn’t get the three points but all of us would have taken this result before the match which is to know we got through.”

In this tournament, the Falcons surpassed all expectations by emerging victorious in a group where they held the lowest-ranked position.

Despite the shaky preparation, the teams’ resilience and determination shone through, and Waldrum has praised his players for their extraordinary performance, saying that their impressive performance has not only silenced doubters but also converted them into believers in the team’s abilities.
